In a recent and honest interview, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root revealed that the band is currently not focused on creating new music. Root explained that the break is due to his current lack of creative drive, admitting, “My inspiration is nearly zero.” His remarks highlight the creative roadblocks the group has encountered, especially following the release of their 2022 album, The End, So Far.

During the album’s production, Root openly battled significant personal issues, including deep depression and the emotional toll of the COVID-19 lockdowns, both of which severely impacted his ability to contribute musically. He described how playing the guitar, once a comforting outlet, began to feel like a painful reminder of the restrictions and emptiness of the pandemic period, leaving him feeling disconnected and unmotivated.

Nevertheless, Root gave credit to fellow bandmates like bassist Alessandro Venturella and percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan, who took a leading role in the album’s development. Their contributions were key in bringing the project to life while Root managed his internal struggles.

Although there are no current plans for new music, Root’s openness about his mental and creative challenges emphasizes the importance of psychological health in the creative process. Fans continue to support the band, hopeful that inspiration will return and lead Slipknot into a new era of music.
