Fergus Hunt, founding member of the influential Melbourne rock trio bZARK, has sadly passed away at the age of 51. Known for his emotive voice, powerful songwriting, and distinctive guitar work, Fergus was a driving creative force behind the band’s unique sound during the 1990s. Together with drummer Tarek Smallman and bassist Gareth Skinner, Fergus helped shape bZARK’s identity—one that blended alternative rock with experimental elements and deeply personal lyrics. After the band’s disbandment in 1999, Fergus remained active in music, forming The Other Kind and continuing to write and perform with the same passion that endeared him to fans and peers alike.
His passing on May 16, 2025, came as a shock to the Australian music community, with tributes pouring in from fellow musicians, collaborators, and long-time admirers. Fergus’s legacy is one of authenticity, talent, and resilience. Though he is no longer with us, his music and memory will live on through the records he made, the lives he touched, and the projects he began—some of which may still be released in the future. Fergus Hunt was more than a musician; he was an artist whose voice and spirit will echo far beyond the final note.
