On June 2, 2025, Ed Sheeran revealed that the music video for his new single “Sapphire” will be released soon, premiering alongside the track on June 5. This launch is part of the promotional campaign for his eighth studio album, Play, which is set to drop on September 12, 2025.
The teaser for “Sapphire” features Sheeran in various joyful scenes, consistently smiling, which has excited fans greatly. Social media is buzzing with anticipation as fans eagerly await the full video and song.
“Sapphire” follows two earlier singles from Play: “Azizam” and “Old Phone.” Released on April 4, 2025, “Azizam” is an electropop song infused with Persian musical influences, accompanied by a vibrant music video set at a Persian wedding. “Old Phone,” released on May 1, 2025, is a nostalgic track inspired by Sheeran finding an old mobile phone, with its video filmed in a pop-up pub located in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
The Play album represents Sheeran’s return to upbeat pop sounds, contrasting with the more mellow style of his previous work. He describes the album as a celebration of joy and aims to connect with his audience through its playful and lively tone.
Alongside his music releases, Sheeran is currently touring Europe on the “Mathematics” tour, which began on May 30, 2025. Special guests Tori Kelly and Myles Smith have joined him on stage to perform collaborations.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the June 5 release of “Sapphire” and its music video as excitement builds for the full album launch this September.
